Today I earnt my stripes. After eating a little too much ice cream yesterday (someone told me it was mandatory), I needed to burn off the calories... So this afternoon, after work, I rode from Hastings to Frankston. I've befriended an old man who is on the same train home as me, who told me about a bike path which runs along the tracks; he rides from Somerville to Hastings every afternoon. Deciding it was worth a try, (previously I've only ridden on the road, dodging trucks, much to mother's concern) I went in search for the bike path. It turns out that one does NOT head down a dirt track hoping it will become bitumen. It will in fact run out and require you to walk along the railway tracks until the scrub has subsuded so you can return to the very rough dirt track. Eventually after a few wrong turns (the path a very poorly marked!) another bumpy ride through the new Peninsula bypass roadworks and up one extremely steep hill, I made it to Frankston! Stripes earnt and calories burnt!
