Angela and Ryan are a couple that found Muesli and Yoghurt via Twitter. They were getting married at the Old Treasury Building in town and wanted to ensure the style and elegance of the building was carried through to the ceremony and reception. That wasn’t particularly difficult as Ange is one of the most elegant people I have ever met (as the photos obviously indicate!!) I will always remember this wedding, not because the David Austen roses were so beautiful or the table settings used the most amazing French linen to match the lotus flowers, but because of the breakfast date I had right before the wedding. Now for those of you who know me, I unfortunately judge a man by their shoes. That’s not to say I dismiss a man by their shoes, but I find that you can tell a lot about their personality via their shoes. Running late as per usual, I texted to request we meet at 10:30 rather than 10am. I made some super witty quip that he would need to ensure he wears appropriate footwear to cross the treacherous river, north side (over the Yarra). Yep, that was fine and he would watch out for the crocodiles (equally witty reply text…) So I arrived and we started chatting. It suddenly occurred to me that I needed to check and make sure he wore the appropriate footwear for the journey north. I super smoothly (not) looked down at his feet and literally started laughing (again, super smooth). Because there on his feet (might I add he was wearing an excellent shirt and good fitted jeans) were the most entertaining ‘shoes’ I had ever encountered on a morning inner city breakfast date… not crocs… not white sketchers… not sandals with socks… but FROG TOE SHOES! I enquired further… he swore by them. “They fix bad backs, poor posture, strengthen ankles and cure colds.” Ok so I added the last bit. But he kept going… “I have four pairs, one for running, one for bouldering (ok), one for general wear (I think that was the pair I saw) and a pair for something else (maybe a wedding, you know, the super sleek Velcro variety which matches the tux?)”… then… “I wear mine 70% of the time!” Who puts a percentage on their frog toe shoe wearing habits?!!! Needless to say, I was impressed by his dedication to the toe shoe (I half expected he’d whip out a pair for me to have and wear). But we did never meet again for a second date…
ps a special thank you to Infinity Photography for their beautiful photos.
