On a whim a few months back, I booked into a printmaking class at the Australian Print Workshop on Gertrude Street. Aside from potato stamping (and sweet potato!) and a high school design project where I screen printed onto t-shirts with cut out x-ray film, I’ve never really been involved in print making. Anyhow, with the workshop starting in a few weeks, I’ve been keeping an eye out for print styles to try out… Well… you can imagine my excitement yesterday as I came across one of my new favourite artist at the Modern Times Pop Up Shop #3, Ellie Malin (first photo). Not only were the colours and layout perfect, but the work was of a mountain. How fitting given my pending climb! The other favourite Melbourne artist of the moment is Liesl Pferrer who coincidentally is also making mountains! Both works are just excellent. Just excellent.
