I've been testing the health system, following instructions from the professionals advising on my pregnancy. This means I do very little research on what tests I should be undergoing (and when they should occur). Rather, I do what the doc, midwife and radiographer tells me, according to their various timeframes. This strategy has worked approximately.. the local midwives did take a little bit of time to touchbase, and as a result, when Mark and I met with them on Tuesday, there was some minor alarm that I'd missed the timeslot for my glucose test. So I was immediately booked in for the next day.
This delightful test measures my body's ability to process sugar, essentially whether or not I've acquired gestational diabetes. I get the results today, but boy was the process gross. In the past year I've literally had one can of softdrink (had a few juices), so glugging a bottle of super sweet liquid was somewhat difficult. Maybe it was like drinking straight cordial.. a bottle of it! This was also drunk on an empty stomach, yuck. As a water addict, the hardest part was not immediately trying to dilute the sugar liquid with cups of water! And sitting still.. mind you, after the second blood test (taken on the first hour) I felt extremely faint and had to lie down for the last hour!
Pending the outcome of the results, I thought I'd indulge everyone on some of the most interesting cakes I've seen for a while. The last picture is of a cake more up my alley, but the skill used to create the top cake.. wow!!!! Maybe if the sugar drink was actually cake, it would have been a better experience ;)
